If you have been following Mido’s Ocean Star collection, you would have pretty much guessed that the new Ocean Star 200C was coming. As a continuation from the GMT and Chronograph launched last year, this year they are offering up a new Ocean Star with a ceramic bezel.
Just by that statement alone, its nothing too exciting, especially considering that Mido is pretty late to the party with this one. However, there are minute details about this new watch that could offer even more value-for-money than the Ocean Star 200 despite its slightly higher price tag.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way – the ceramic bezel. It gets all the scratch-proof, fade resistance and hypoallergenic properties often associated with this material and Mido is now offering it in a choice of green (another affordable ‘Hulk’ alternative!), grey or blue. To accompany these new colours, the dial will also come in a corresponding colour.
One interesting new addition is a ‘wave’ texture on the dial made to resemble the ripples on the surface of the sea. As we all know, Mido’s watches take their inspiration from architecture with the Ocean Star inspired by the Europa Point Lighthouse that overlooks the Gibraltar Strait. Thus, this new texture on the dial will be the perfect accompaniment to the hands that were designed based on the lighthouse. Another subtle design change is the fact that these new Ocean Stars will come with round indices instead of the traditional rectangle ones.
The price for the new Mido Ocean Star 200C with the ceramic bezel is MYR 4,180 as compared to MYR 3,750 for the Ocean Star 200. The other specs are the same – the hefty 42.5mm case, the Mido Caliber 80 movement – so technically speaking what you are paying for is the new ceramic bezel. Just to sweeten up the deal, with the new 200C the bracelet will also have polished centre links giving it an added touch of elegance.
