When it comes to resurrecting vintage pieces, no other brand does it with quite as much gusto as Longines. With constant production since 1832, Longines is one of those brands that have a large and legitimate back catalogue of watches and are not afraid to draw inspiration from it. And the latest Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946 is yet another good example of the brand resurrecting the designs of the past but without the hassle of an actual vintage watch.
The Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946 is exactly as the name indicates – a chronograph inspired by a watch made in the 1940s. As such, it comes with Arabic numerals in the italic “dolphin” style on the dial and has the leaf style hands in blued steel. It’s not exactly noticeable from images but Longines states that the dial is domed, which is yet another characteristic of that period.
As for the modern updates, the size of the watch has been upped to 40mm in diameter. Some love it on account of their bigger wrists, others hate it because a watch from the 1940s should typically be at 35mm or 36mm. I will leave it to you to decide whether it is a good or bad thing. But something that everybody can agree on is the reliable Caliber L895 movement of the watch that beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and has 54 hours of power reserve. Another point that may divide the room is the fact that it is an automatic movement.
The Longines Heritage Classic Chronograph 1946 will have a retail price of MYR 11,880.
