When Maurice Lacroix unveiled to the world the brand new Aikon in 2016 (which took its design cues from the very successful Calypso collection), they did so with references that housed a quartz movement. Then, when they debuted an Aikon with an automatic movement the following year, this showed that the collection was here to stay. True enough, the Aikon Chonograph followed suit and of course the next logical step would be something sporty like a diver. So here it is, the new Maurice Lacroix Aikon Venturer.
Truth be told, the folks at Maurice Lacroix are not marketing the watch as a diver, even though it definitely has all the markings that make it one. I mean look at the rubber strap, the unidirectional ceramic bezel, a screw down solid caseback and the most obvious trait, 300m of water resistance (there are even born and bred divers that can’t achieve this). Instead however the Aikon Venturer is a watch that Maurice Lacroix says that you can use to dive into a city as you explore it.
Marketing aside, the Venturer is an extremely handsome tool watch that can most definitely transcend as you move from work to play. The larger 43mm case and bezel give it a sporty look while the satin-finished surfaces and polished edges will definitely suit a more formal setting. Additionally, the blue or black sunray-brushed dial is definitely an added bonus no matter what you are looking to use the watch for. In any case the watch is built to exude the philosophy of the Aikon collection, which is to offer up a watch that is, for the price, exceptionally well designed and well built.
If you already own the Aikon Automatic, you’ll be pleased to know that the new rubber strap built for the Venturer will fit the Automatic as well. And with the warmer climate of Malaysia, sometimes it helps to be able to quickly swap out the steel 5-link satin-finished steel bracelet for this rubber one thanks to the EasyChange system.
