In this neck of the woods (Malaysia), surfing is not a thing, but we have to say that this latest G-Shock watch endorsed by pro-surfer Kanoa Igarashi definitely caught our attention. The GLX-5600KI is part of Casio’s new G-LIDE lineup of watches for extreme sports which still sits under the G-Shock family of watches.
To mimic the ocean, the entire watch was made to be semi-transparent which, to be honest, is why we are smitten by this watch. It’s not every day you get a cool piece like this at a more modest price point. One other thing to add is that because the watch was designed for surfers, it also comes in a thin, square form so that it won’t obstruct all that surfing; and as a bonus, this will also work if you are looking for a G-Shock that doesn’t come with too much bulk.
Also, because it is made for surfers, the G-LIDE GLX-5600KI features a tide graph function. For the non-surfers, there’s no use for this, except maybe if you like to fish near the sea, or often go on beach holidays and would like to know when is the best time to go for a swim.
For all you surfers out there, and especially fans of Kanoa Igarashi, you’ll be happy to know that Igarashi’s “Kanoa” signature can be found on the upper centre of the dial, the strap keeper, the caseback and it also shows up when the backlight is turned on.
