The square DW-5600 may be the first Casio G-Shock ever made, but if you ask anyone growing up in the 1990s it will probably be the round shape of the DW-6900 that brings them a feeling of nostalgia. This year, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 6900 Series of G-Shock watches, Casio is offering three models with stainless steel bezels and two limited-edition designs.
First launched in 1995, the 6900 series G-Shocks quickly gained popularity and the nickname “Triple Graph” thanks to the three visible counters on the top side of the watch. It was the first-ever G-Shock to come with an EL Backlight, a feature that has now become a staple within the brand. Since it first launched, the 6900 Series collection has been expanded to feature a wide variety of colours and has also served as the base for collaboration and special models. In 2019, Casio reported that in G-Shock’s 35-year history, the DW-6900 was third in terms of the number of units sold. Not bad for a model released in 1995.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this iconic model, Casio has decided to update the collection with a stainless steel bezel. The GM-6900 series comes in three special finishes on the bezel – silver, black or gold. The silver and gold models are paired with a traditional black band but the one with the black finish is paired with a translucent red resin strap.
Additionally, there will be two special editions of the DW-6900 made with a translucent resin case and strap and also offer a pearlescent dial (changes its colour with the viewing angle).
